Its All For The Fans ???

Everyday on MTV and Vh1  hundreds if not thousands of people tune in to watch different shows like this one describeing how celebrities live there rich and fabulous lives. These shows focus on A-list celebrities such as movie stars, athletes, and big time Athletes. If you don’t tune into one of these type shows than you’ll most likely check out a sob story or two about how they made it big. From rags to richs and it was all because of the fans.

All because of the fans. Thats pretty much what every big time rags to richs musician would say. So they make there millions of dollars and go on tour and put out music all for the fans to pay them back. But what is it called when the one’s who help to create turn there backs on you and forget about your loyalty to them? It’s called BETRAYAL.

Betrayel was exactly what once great artists united and did to there loyal fans. It all came to head with Napster. A free downloading system that allowed music fans download there favorite bands music for free rather than shelling out $ 20.00 bucks for their full album. The band that is well known for starting the war between musicians and Free downloading sites is Metallica. Metallica the once leader of Metal now leader of fight against there fans?

That’s right the fight against Fan’s. Metallica rallyed up with the government and saw to the arrest of over 50 of there fans that they found were downloading hundreds of there songs. After that they began to rallyed up support from other artists like Blink 182, Jennifer Lopez, and many more. They Became the Artists Against Downloading campaign. They would tell fans in concerts and on talk shows and other venues about the dangers that downloading does to there profits. Instead of selling a million records they may sell only 75,000 and lose out on all that money. So they’d rather arrest fans to make a buck then to go with there popularity.

This campaign was pretty sucessful in the Artists eyes. They helped arrest hundreds of downloaders and if not arrested them sued them $ 100,000 dollars for every song that they downloaded. They even sunk lower than this, if you ever thought it possible, they had a single mother sued $ 100,000 dollars for every 1 of her 20 lullbies that she downloaded for her new born child. She of course couldnt pay so they sent her off to prison and had her child put into a foster car system. Nice Campaign.

After many cases like that one fans began to fight back by cutting off the artists money by not attending concerts, not buying cd’s, and in anyways possible just not supporting bands who where on this campaign. Many bands began to feel the heat and paycut and began apologizing to fans by useing tactics like putting cd’s up for full free download on there sites and by publicly apologizing to fans. Many musicians realized there wrongs and made up for them but many to this day are still strongly against downloading. But the quote i like to use is by Huey Lewis. He say’s ” in the past year Bruce Springstein has probably made more money off concerts then he’s made on anythign in his entire life.”

Like is said many artists have chaged there views on the topic of Downloading but at the very same time many are still strong willed against it. Due to there fight different copyright labels and companies have stepped into the shoes that once where filled by musicians. They now head the fight against Downloading and trying to get more and more money and blood. Just last year a boy, age 12, downloaded quite a few songs and was  met one day by a swat team and a label executive handing him a supena. The boy was tryed and fined $ 100,000 dollars for every song that he had downloaded which brought him to a total that im pretty sure the US government couldnt even pay off. He was sent to juvenille hall while his parents home was seized for collateral and all there belongings.

There’s always light though. Many rising stars are all for downloading because, for now, its all for the fans. Though there are still many out there who still feel that downloading wrong and that it should be stopped and they are doing everything in there power to stop it,  there are always new venues to get free music and evryday we grow closer to an agreement that all will follow. Maybe not in this lifetime but maybe somedy soon. To all who download i’m right there with you because remeber… its all for the fans…..

Its All For Us !!!

Very powerful images. I like how you chose pictures that weren’t too obvious. It draws the viewer in and allows them to figure it out.
